Bungie is back, and this time they are tackling one of the hottest genres in gaming: the extraction shooter. Marathon is their answer to Escape from Tarkov and The Cycle: Frontier, but with the polish and gunfeel the studio is known for.

🎮 Core Gameplay Loop

Marathon is a first-person, PvPvE extraction shooter. Here is how it works:

1. Deploy: Load into a shared, hostile environment on the derelict colony of Tau Ceti IV (set in 2893).
2. Scavenge: Find loot, weapons, implants, and resources.
3. Survive: Fight AI-controlled enemies (hostile UESC security, alien threats) and other players.
4. Extract: Get to an extraction point with your loot.
5. Repeat: Keep your loot if you extract. Lose everything if you die.

⚔️ PvP: The Human Element

The tension comes from other players. Matches support up to six three-player teams, though solos and duos can also queue.

Proximity Chat

A unique feature allows you to communicate with nearby players—even enemies. Form uneasy alliances to survive a tough section, but watch your back when the danger passes.

🛡️ Runner Shells & Customization

You play as a "Runner," a cybernetically enhanced mercenary. Choose from six equipable Runner Shells, each with unique foundational abilities:

• Recon

As you scavenge, you find weapons, body implants, and core system upgrades to craft unique builds.

📈 Faction Progression

Complete contracts for six distinct factions to:

• Upgrade your Runner Shell
• Improve starting loadouts
• Increase vault space
• Unlock specialized vendors

This forms the season-long progression system, rewarding consistent play.
